About IIA |
At the first International Ichnological Meeting, ICHNIA 2004, held in Trelew (Argentina), it was decided by the ichnologists present that the ichnological community would benefit from being brought together in an international ichnological association. A first committee was formed in February 2006 by the vote of more than 70 ichnologists with the purpose of writing the by-laws and getting the association formally registered. The objective was achieved in 2009 with the registration of the association in Corporations Canada and the approval of the by-laws in accordance to the rules of this entity. During 2010 agreements were made with Taylor & Francis to have ICHNOS as the official journal of the association and to handle the payment of membership fees. From there, 2011 should be the year for the consolidation of this project leading to the third ICHNIA to take place in Newfoundland in 2012, where a new steering committee will be voted. The objectives of the International Ichnological Association shall be a) to advance in the understanding of interactions between organism and substrate; b) to integrate scientists of different disciplines in ichnological research; c) to promote this science, through dissemination of information by journal and newsletter publications, and through international conferences. back to page menu / back to home page
